A Muslim family, travelling from Kannauj to Aligarh for medical treatment, was attacked by a mob at the Aligarh railway station on Wednesday. The injured were admitted to the JN Medical College by the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel.

According to victims, around 20-25 people came to them and started beating them up as soon as they got off the train at the Aligarh railway station. The family alleged that the men belonged to some organization as they all had similar ‘gamcha’ (towel) on their necks and were carrying identical ID cards.

According to GRP spokesperson, some passengers were travelling to Aligarh in the Mau-Anand Vihar train when a dispute started leading to violence, when they got off the train.

The GRP said that the victim family’s statement has been recorded and action will be taken on the basis of the same.

The victim family alleged that the cops stationed at the railway station were shooting the incident on their mobile phones rather than saving them. After the mob left, the police took the injured to the hospital. Some members of the family reportedly received serious head injuries.

Reportedly, some Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students have submitted a memorandum to the police to take action against the culprits.

Though many described the incident as a case of communal violence, the police did not comment on it and the Deputy SP denied that it was a case of mob lynching.
