Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday remotely inaugurated the Charlapalli Railway Terminal developed at the cost of Rs 413 crore to ease the congestion at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kachiguda terminals.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who virtually participated in the event, urged the prime minister to sanction a regional ring rail network along the lines of the regional ring road, pointing out that such a railway network was necessary for Telangana’s development since it does not have a port.

“This station connected to the Outer Ring Road, will significantly boost development in the region. This is a step forward in creating sustainable infrastructure,” he added.

He pointed out that the new terminal will ease the pressure on existing terminals in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda, making travel more convenient for the people. The new terminal station, located on the Eastern side of Hyderabad, has modern amenities such as lifts, escalators, and solar-powered operations.

It has a total of nine platforms, including four extra high-level ones. It has a spacious concourse area and two foot-over bridges along with a cafeteria, restaurants, and restrooms.

Chief minister A Revanth Reddy used the opportunity to pursue the state’s pending projects like Hyderabad Metro Railway Phase II. He urged the Prime Minister to sanction a greenfield highway and a railway line between Bandar Port in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana which will facilitate industrial development through the setting up of a dry port and industrial parks for automobiles and pharmaceuticals.

He also spoke about Vikarabad- Krishna railway line which will connect Telangana with Karnataka via Kodangal- the chief minister’s assembly constituency.

The chief minister said, “I wanted to say thank you and at the same time I need these three-four issues (to be settled) for the development of Telangana. The Prime Minister is speaking about a $5 trillion economy, Telangana can contribute about $1 trillion to the economy and for this, the development of a railway network is necessary since there is no port connectivity… We have only one request to the Prime Minister on behalf of the four-crore people of Telangana: if you grant this much, we will readily contribute towards a USD 1 trillion economy.”

While the Prime Minister and chief minister attended the event virtually, governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, state industry minister D Sridhar Babu and BJP leader Etela Rajender were present at the newly inaugurated terminal station.
