Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday announced plans to replace the existing healthcare scheme with a new one, promising cashless health insurance to beneficiaries.

Speaking during a general discussion on the state’s budget, Lalduhoma expressed that the proposed scheme will offer improved benefits compared to the current Mizoram State Health Care Scheme, initiated by the previous Zoramthanga-led Mizo National Front (MNF) government in 2019.

The new healthcare scheme is currently being formulated to ensure enhanced provisions for the citizens. Lalduhoma disclosed that Rs 50 crore was disbursed on Tuesday to settle all outstanding healthcare bills, with over Rs 45 crore pending release to beneficiaries.

Notably, the healthcare bill had been a significant political issue preceding the assembly polls in 2023. The former MNF government under Zoramthanga faced criticism for its failure to clear pending healthcare bills, drawing ire from various quarters.
