Militants gun down Special Police Officer in J-K

Militants killed a Special Police Officer (SPO) in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.

The militants barged into Haleem Gujjar’s house in Gutroo village and fired at him from close range, killing him on the spot.

The SPOs are engaged on fixed monthly remuneration to fight militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

The militants escaped from the scene after carrying out the attack, said a police official, adding a manhunt has been launched for the assailants.

This comes two days after a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant and an ex-panchayat member, Mohammad Ramzan, were killed in an attack in the Imam Sahib area of Shopian in Kashmir.

Three terrorists of HM reportedly barged into the house of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worker Ramzan and had shot him.

The sarpanch’s house was set on fire the next day.

Forces clash with protesters 

Earlier, five civilians were injured while they were protesting on Wednesday in a security forces firing in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

People in Wullerhama village were chasing an alleged braid chopper from trying to flee “in an army vehicle,” an eyewitness said.

“The protesters resorted to heavy stone pelting at the army vehicle. Soldiers on board then fired at the crowd injuring five civilians,” a police officer said.

The injured have been shifted to a hospital.

Ceasefire violation

In an incident of unprovoked firing on the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday, four civilians were injured on during ceasefire violations by the Pakistani Army on the  LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

The injured included three labourers and a woman in the Mankote area, a police officer said.

The injured were  shifted to a hospital, according to media reports.
