Reacting to India calling off the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has said that calling off the meeting between Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart Sheikh Mehmood Qureshi in New York is a bad news for the state.
India had called off the meeting following the release of a series of ‘commemorative’ stamps on slain Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani and terming him as a ‘freedom fighter’ by Pakistani authorities.

On Friday morning, the bodies of three J&K policemen, who were abducted by militants late on Thursday from Shopian district, were recovered from Kapran village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A few days back, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed along the Jammu border after he and his team came under unprovoked firing from Pakistan. His bullet-riddled body with throat slit was recovered by the BSF.
Mehbooba said both countries owe it to people of the state and country to carry on dialogue rather than talking through media.
In spite of a historic mandate, it is media and not NDA leadership that is setting the agenda she said in her tweet.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) MLA, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, said, “It is strange and unfortunate that talks between foreign ministers of India and Pakistan have been called off”.
