After discussing with Governor NN Vohra the issue of a tourist’s death in violent stone-pelting in Kashmir, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has called an all-party meeting in Srinagar on Wednesday to hammer out a solution to the vexed problem.
Her decision to call the all-party meeting comes amid a fresh spike in incidents of violence in Kashmir, besides the killing of the tourist on Monday. R Thirumani, 22, a tourist from Chennai, died due to the head injuries he suffered in a stone-pelting incident in Narbal on the outskirts of Srinagar.

The incident has been widely condemned by all sections of the society that has accused Mehbooba of being soft towards the stone-pelters and the separatists who were inciting the Valley youth by issuing provocative statements. This is the first incident in which a tourist has died, though seven tourists from Kerala were injured due to stone-pelting earlier this month.
Mehbooba met Governor Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday for 90 minutes and discussed the situation prevailing in the Valley.

They also discussed the growing radicalisation and its grave impact in the education sector.
The governor also spoke to Mehbooba Mufti about matters related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forthcoming visit to Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu regions on 19 May.
