Mecca Masjid verdict: Asaduddin Owaisi says justice has not been done

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following the acquittal of all five accused in the Mecca Masjid blast case on Monday.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following the acquittal of all five accused in the Mecca Masjid blast case on Monday.

Owaisi took to Twitter to express his outrage over the verdict alleging that the NIA didn’t pursue the case because of the “political masters”.

“#MMasjid Blast case verdict majority of witness turned hostile after June 2014 ,NIA didn’t pursue the case as expected from it /was not allowed by “Political Masters”Qs is what will be left of Criminal Justice system if such biased prosecutions continue Justice has nt been DONE,” he wrote.

The Member of Parliament from Hyderabad accused the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not appealing against the bail given to the accused.

“Blast case verdict – Justice has not been done ,NIA & Modi govt didn’t even Appeal against Bail that was given to Accused within 90 days this was a complete biased investigation which will weaken our resolve to Fight Terrorism ,MMasjid 9 people died many injured,” he wrote.

In a third tweet, Owaisi responded to another user’s tweet quoting an NIA official saying that the elite investigation agency will decide future course of action after examining the court judgment.

He criticised the NIA and said that the verdict given today weakens India’s resolve to fight terrorism.

“NIA is a deaf & blind TOTA they didn’t appeal against bail given to accused ,witness turned hostile after June 2014 IO couldn’t give proper statement so everything was done to fail the victims upshot is our fight against terrorism is weakened after Today’s acquittals,” read the tweet.

 

An NIA court in Nampally in Hyderabad said that the prosecution failed to prove any of the charges against any of the five persons accused in the 18 May 2007 explosion which left nine people dead and over 50 injured at the historic mosque located near Charminar.

The five accused – Aseemanand (alias Naba Kumar Sarkar), Devender Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Bharatbhai and Rajender Chowdhary – were members of Hindu right-wing group Abhinav Bharat.
