The additional district sessions judge-cum-special judge of a fast track court in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Thursday has sentenced a 27-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty of committing rape of a four-year-old girl six years back in a village under Marshaghai police station jurisdiction.
The court also imposed a Rs 50,000 fine on the convict and failure to pay which would result in his sentence being increased to additional six months.
Pronouncing the verdict in the case, the additional district sessions judge Tribikram Keshari Chinara convicted Manas Kumar Sethi to 20 year RI under IPC sections-376 (2) and 506 and section-6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act , 2012.
The minor girl was sexually assaulted on 9 June, 2017 in a field near the village. Finding her alone, the convict had raped her.
The victim and 14 witnesses deposed in this case in the court. After relying on the evidence of the girl and others and the medico-legal report, the court pronounced the conviction verdict, said Manoj Sahoo, the special public prosecutor.
