Days after losing her cool on BJP activists chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and front-ranking leaders of her Trinamool Congress changed their display picture on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook to ‘Jai Hind Jai Bangla’ on Sunday night.
Earlier in the day, Banerjee in a detailed Facebook post accused the BJP of mixing religion with politics and urged people to deter any sort of chaos and unrest.

The picture of Trinamool’s official Twitter and Facebook accounts also were changed to ‘Jai Hind Jai Bangla’ with pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, revolutionary leaders Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Matangini Hazra, Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, and rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Photos of leading 19th century Bengal Renaissance figures like Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, as also religious and social thinker Swami Vivekananda and father of Indian Constitution B R Ambedkar were also part of the new display pictures.
Mamata Banerjee has quite a few times lost her cool claiming that the BJP workers were deliberately raising ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans to create political unrest in the state.
Last week, Mamata chased a group of youth shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in front of her convoy on way to Naihati in the North 24 Parganas district.
A furious Banerjee rushed out of her vehicle twice to confront the youth, while issuing a verbal warning to them. “Come here you BJP criminals. If you have guts come in front of me,” she said.
A similar incident had occurred on May 4 at Chandrakona in the West Midnapore district when the Trinamool Congress chief stepped out from her vehicle to confront people who were raising Lord Ram slogan in front of her convoy.
Earlier, Mamata had used a photo of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar as her profile picture on social media handles as a mark of protest against the vandalism of the Bengali renaissance era icon’s bust during the violence at BJP chief Amit Shah’s roadshow.
The official Twitter and Facebook accounts of Trinamool Congress (TMC), as well as other prominent leaders and supporters of the party, also had Vidyasagar’s image.
