Taking the protest to the street in Delhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday lashes out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his demonetisation move.
Speaking at a protest against demonetisation outside Jantar Mantar here, the Trinamool Congress chief said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is snatching away people’s saving.
“The Modi government is trying to snatch away people’s savings. When our country’s economy was moving at a steady rate, the government brought in demonetisation that stifled the country,” Banerjee said.
Accusing the Modi government of creating hardship to the common people, Banerjee said that “most of industries are on standstill, labour and working class is not getting their daily wages and not able to eat anything”.
Banerjee in her address maintained that the Trinamool Congress’ protest is not about election.
“This protest is not about election. The government should understand that whatever they did is affecting normal people.” Banerjee said.
The TMC chief also said that the BJP will see the impact of demonetisation in the upcoming elections.
“I challenge the BJP that this time nobody will support their party, even their own workers will abandon them. The BJP will get a reply for demonetisation in the upcoming elections,” she added.
