The Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference on Monday declared its president Sajad Lone as the party’s candidate from the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency.
The announcement was made by the party’s senior general secretary, Imran Reza Ansari, becoming the first party to announce its candidate for one of the five Lok Sabha seats in the Union territory.
Lone was a minister in the previous PDP-BJP coalition government. It is yet to be seen if he gets the support of the saffron party in the general elections.
Announcing the candidature of Lone, Ansari said the party will take a call about other four seats based on its limited resources and also how best to defeat the common enemy of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He added that the People’s Conference (PC) will not fight in the Jammu region.
“Our position about the other two seats in the Kashmir region will become clear in the coming week or at most two weeks,” he added.
