The CPI-M-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) received an upper hand in the by-elections for 23 local body wards in the state by acquiring five more seats compared to their previous count, thereby extending their tally to 10. The LDF, which had five seats, won 10 seats, including an Independent candidate backed by the LDF.

While the UDF won 10 seats, the BJP emerged victorious on three seats. The UDF tally fell from the 13 last time to 10 while the LDF increased its count from five to 10. The BJP saw its tally slip from four to three.

Though the LDF and the UDF won 10 seats each in the by-elections for 23 local body wards, the LDF had more reasons to cheer as it managed to wrest a number of seats from both the UDF and BJP. It may be noted that the LDF shrugged off the anti-incumbency factor and emerged victorious in five more seats in the by-elections held on Wednesday.
