Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to greet Kovind as he celebrated 71st birthday, first since assuming office, and hailed his concern for the poor and marginalised.
Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu met Kovind and wished him. In a tweet, Naidu wrote, “Met Rashtrapati Shri. Ram Nath Kovind ji to convey him Birthday Greetings. Wished him a long and meaningful life in the service of our mother land.”
Union Ministers including Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Governors, Chief Ministers, and MPs sent their greetings to Kovind on his birthday who was born on 1 October, 1945, in Paraukh village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat district.
In July, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Ram Nath Kovind was elected as the new President of India, securing a massive margin over his United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rival Meira Kumar in a straight fight.
