Kerala govt rejects Oppn’s demand for CBI probe into Dr Vandana Das’s murder
CM Vijayan said the police had secured witnesses’ sworn statements and adduced unimpeachable forensic evidence and security camera footage as proof in the court.
The High Court slammed the State Government since it missed the deadline to confiscate the assets of the PFI leaders, who destroyed public properties, worth crores of rupees, as they gave the day-long Statewide shutdown call in September last year.
Two days after it received the ultimatum from the High Court, the Kerala Government on Friday has started confiscating the properties of the proscribed PFI leaders in connection with the incidents of violence during the hartal call in September last year.
The Land Revenue Commissioner has sent a letter to the District Collectors to confiscate the properties acting on the High Court order. On the basis of the court order, the process to confiscate the assets of the PFI leaders in Thrissur, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Kollam and Ernakulam districts has started on Friday.

PFI state general secretary Abdul Sattar’s house at Karunagapally in Kollam and his assets were confiscated by the revenue officials in the afternoon and the process was completed by a team led by Karunagappally Tahsildar.

In Thrissur district, the houses of 5 PFI leaders were confiscated. The houses of Aziz at Pazhunnana in Karangal, Yahia Koya Thangal at Perumpilavu Adhina, Usman at Pallikarajanjal at Perumpilavu, Mustafa at Pudhu house in Guruvayur and Rafeeq at Pulissery Pilakutta house in Vaduthala were confiscated by the revenue authorities.
Houses and assets of PFI leaders and activists accused in Wayanad violence cases were confiscated in 14 places in the district. In Kasargod district, properties of PFI leaders in Kanhangad, Chimney were confiscated. Properties of Kakkadavil Nangarat Sirajuddin, Thrikaripur CT Sulaiman, Kasargode Abdul Salam and Ummer Farooq Alampadi were also confiscated.

Houses of five PFI leaders were confiscated in Thiruvananthapuram. Actions for confiscating the assets of PFI leaders in Kattakada, Varkala and Neyyattinkara taluks started.
Properties of 5 PFI activists were confiscated in Kottayam district . Of them, properties of 3 PFI leaders in Erattupetta village under Meenachil taluk and Kanjirapally and Changanassery taluks were confiscated.
The assets belonging to PFI leaders were confiscated at 3 places in Aluva. They are Abdul Latif and Mohammad Kasim, natives of Kunjunnikara, whose assets were confiscated by the revenue authorities.
The Kerala High Court on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in complying with its earlier order to confiscate the properties of the PFI leaders and gave an ultimatum to the State Government to confiscate the properties of the leaders of the banned outfit immediately.
Earlier last month, the Kerala Government tendered unconditional apology before the High Court for the delay in confiscating the properties of the leaders of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) to recover the loss of property that happened in the State-wide shutdown call on 23 September. The Additional chief secretary, home department also assured the court that the confiscation process will be completed by 15 January. The court was irked by the fact that the proceedings were not completed even after the deadline.
A large number of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses came under attack on the hartal day by PFI workers. Other public properties were also damaged, causing huge losses. Public property worth Rs.5.20 crore was destroyed during the hartal called by the PFI.
