Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday condemned the killing of two Youth Congress workers in his state and assured action against the culprits.
Vijayan, a leader of the ruling Communist Party of India (CPI-M), also said that his party has nothing to do with the murders.
“Very unfortunate incident,” he said in a statement referring to the killings of Krupesh and Sarathlal in Kerala’s Kasargod on 17 February.

“Political murders have reduced in my time. CPM didn’t have any reason to plan this murder. There will be strict action against those involved in political murders,” Vijayan said.
According to reports, the activists, identified as Krupesh and Sarathlal, were attacked by three assailants who came in an SUV and hacked them to death. Krupesh died on the spot. Sarathlal passed away en route to a medical facility in Mangaluru, Karnataka.
The Congress blamed the CPI(M) for the attack.
While expressing condolences, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that his party will not rest till the murderers are brought to justice.
“The brutal murder of two members of our Youth Congress family in Kasargod, Kerala, is shocking. The Congress prty stands in solidarity with the families of these two young men and I send them my deepest condolences. We will not rest till the murderers are brought to justice,” Gandhi tweeted on Monday without pointing fingers at the CPI(M).
