BJP’s outreach move ahead of Madarihat bypolls
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for a 'public outreach' campaign in the Madarihat Assembly segment, as it seeks to retain the seat in an upcoming by-election.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday demanded the sacking of Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir for saying that the investigation in the rape and murder of a young girl in Kathua was motivated.
The BJP asked Congress President Rahul Gandhi to act and sack Ghulam Ahmed Mir.
Citing the BJP’s decision to remove two of its Jammu and Kashmir ministers, who had joined the public protests against the probe, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar wondered if Congress president Rahul Gandhi would only point fingers at others but maintain silence on the comments of his party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit chief.

Addressing the media in New Delhi, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said: “Mir had made a statement that the local population thinks that the culprits in the Kathua rape case are still out and the investigation is motivated and they are trying to dilute the case.”
In the video, which was shown to the reporters by Javadekar at the BJP headquarters, Mir is purportedly telling reporters that the locals believed the investigation was motivated and that the main culprits were still at large.
“We want to ask Rahul Gandhi, who took out a candlelight march (protesting the growing incidents of crime against women in the country), why is he not taking action against his party’s state president,” Javadekar said.
Pointing fingers at others while protecting its own was the character of the Congress party, he alleged.
BJP ministers Choudhary Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga resigned on Friday following outrage after they attended rallies to support the rape accused.
