“I welcome the decision of the Delhi High Court to set aside a trial court order that had gone against me. The cancellation of this allotment was a clear case of political vendetta, aimed at silencing a young, vocal parliamentarian,” he said.
Stating that this was not a fight for a home, but to save the Constitution under attack from the ruling dispensation as is being claimed by the AAP and other Opposition parties, Chadha said, “In the end, truth and justice have prevailed.”
In a veiled attack on the ruling BJP, Chadha said, “The decision to revoke the allotment of the official accommodation to me was arbitrary, unreasonable, and unjust, reflecting a new low in political vendetta.”
He saw in the government’s action an attempt to suppress dissent and stifle the voice millions of Indians.
Pointing at the level of tolerance of the ruling party, he said, “Till now, I have delivered only two speeches in Parliament holding the BJP-led Central government accountable.”
“After my first speech, my official accommodation was cancelled. After my second speech, my membership as a parliamentarian was suspended. However, I am not afraid of these tactics, rather I am ready to make any sacrifice to uphold the principles of democracy,” he said in a statement on X.
Referring to his suspension as a member in the Rajya Sabha, the AAP leader said, “Yesterday, the Supreme Court took up the matter and issued a notice to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, seeking their response on my suspension.”
The official residence in question is a Type-7 government bungalow on Pandara Road, a location that falls under Lutyens’ Delhi.
