A joint operation was launched in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday by the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Jammu and Kashmir police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) after they received information about the presence of terrorists in Laroo village.
In the ensuing gunfight, three terrorists were killed and two soldiers injured, said the police.
“As the cordon around the hiding militants was tightened, they fired at the security forces triggering the gunfight. Two of the slain militants were Pakistanis while the third was a local,” informed the police sources.
Clashes between civilian protesters and the security forces erupted near the site of the gunfight.
Authorities have suspended both mobile and internet services in Kulgam district as a precautionary measure.
