A constable of 173 battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) belonging to West Bengal was killed due to unprovoked cross-border firing by Pakistan Rangers in the Samba Sector of Jammu division on Thursday.
The BSF constable identified as Tapan Mondal received serious injuries and later succumbed while being shifted to the Military Hospital in Jammu.
The 25-year-old Tapan belonged to Satui village of Murshidabad district in West Bengal.
He is survived by his mother Sumitra Mondal.
A spokesperson of BSF said that Tapan was injured when Pakistan Rangers opened unprovoked fire at a BSF patrol at 9.30 am in the Mangu Chak border post in the Samba Sector.
The BSF retaliated the fire.
