In a major development, the Assam Police arrested Nipen Das, superintendent of Dibrugarh Central Jail, on Thursday night.

The arrest stems from the discovery of objectionable materials in the cell of Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De, who is kept in jail along with nine of his associates.

Confirming the arrest, Dibrugarh Additional SP Sizal Agarwal said Das was detained under Section 13 (1) B of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 75 of the Assam Prisons Act.

The objectionable items, including mobile phones and a spy camera, were confiscated from Amritpal Singh, who has been incarcerated since February 17. Assam police initiated action against Das based on a case registered in connection with this incident.

It’s noteworthy that Amritpal Singh’s nine associates, also implicated in the matter, face charges under the National Security Act (NSA). These individuals include Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh, Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh, and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla.
