The Army on Wednesday paid tributes to four martyred soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during counter infiltration operations on Tuesday in Gurez sector in which two terrorists were eliminated.

In a solemn ceremony at Srinagar’s Badami Bagh Cantonment, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander, and all ranks paid homage to the martyrs on behalf of the country.

In a show of solidarity, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police SP Vaid and representatives from other security agencies also joined in to pay their last respects.

Late Major Kaustubh Prakash Kumar Rane, Rifleman Hameer Singh, Rifleman Mandeep Singh Rawat and Gunner Vikram Jeet Singh had sustained bullet injuries during the fierce operation in Kanzalwan, Gurez of Bandipura district.  They had been provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital but could not be saved.

Major Kaustubh Prakash Kumar Rane, aged 29, was from Thane, Maharashtra, and had joined the Army in 2011. He is survived by his wife and a son.

Martyred Rifleman Hameer Singh, 28, too had joined the Army in 2011. He was from Pohkhriyal village in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. He is survived by his wife and a daughter. Rifleman Mandeep Singh Rawat, 26,  belonged to Shivpur village of Kotdwar in Uttarakhand, had joined the Army in 2012. He is survived by his mother.

At 25, Gunner Vikram Jeet Singh was the youngest of all. He was from Tepla village in Brara tehsil of Ambala, Haryana, and had joined the Army in 2014. Vikram Jeet is survived by his wife.

The mortal remains of the martyred soldiers were flown to their native places for last rites, where they would be cremated with full military honours.
