Pakistani troops have for the past few months been resorting to sniping on the International Border and LOC in Jammu and Kashmir. The sniper gun is capable of targeting any subject at a distance of more than a kilometre.

A young captain and two soldiers were killed a few months ago in sniper firing along the LOC.

In a separate incident, the security forces on Saturday shot dead two terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen in the Dardgund area of Pulwama in South Kashmir.

The killed terrorists – identified as Liaquat Munir Wani and Wajid-ul-Islam – belonged to Pulwama. A mob indulged in pelting stones at the security forces who retaliated by bursting teargas shells.

The security forces urged the people not to go to the encounter spot until it was sanitised and unexploded ammunition removed.
