India on Monday alleged that Indian officials continued to be harassed and intimidated in Islamabad, and asked Pakistan to direct the authorities concerned to ensure that such incidents did not recur.

Pakistan should investigate recent incidents of harassment of Indian officials and share the results of the investigations with the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, sources in the government said in Delhi.

The sources said two officials of the High Commission who went for shopping to Safa Gold Mall in Islamabad on Monday were aggressively followed by two persons in a Toyota Corolla car from very close at various locations. Also, two officials of the High Commission travelling in an official vehicle were followed by two unknown people on a motorbike when they were going to a supermarket for shopping.

The website of the High Commission of India continued to be intermittently blocked. This was causing inconvenience and affecting normal functioning of the mission, said the sources.

”Such incidents of harassment, intimidation and threats to physical security of diplomats and officials are in violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, and a threat to the security and safety of the personnel of the High Commission of India. Pakistan has been told that the safety and security of Indian High Commission, its officers, staff members and their families is the responsibility of the Government of Pakistan,” said an official who did not wish to be named.
