Indian Army officer detained over honey trap suspicion

The Indian Army has reportedly detained an officer for alleged honey trap suspicions, following a search of his official premises.

According to reports, the Lieutenant Colonel rank officer is posted at the Army base headquarters in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

The search of his premises was conducted on Monday, 12 February, by military intelligence, which was keeping a tab on him over certain financial transactions.

It is suspected that the officer has been honey trapped by an agent of the Pakistan’s external spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

It is still unclear whether the officer is being investigated for corruption or honey trap suspicion or both.

According to the TOI, the officer has been taken to Central Command headquarters at Lucknow for further investigations.

The news of the detention of the officer comes close on the heels of the arrest of an Indian Air Force officer for alleged espionage.

The Group Captain rank officer of the non-flying staff was arrested by the Delhi Police on 9 February. On Tuesday, 13 February, the officer was sent to 14-day judicial custody on by the Patiala House Court.

The 51-year-old officer allegedly revealed sensitive information to an ISI agent posing as a woman over Facebook.
