Union Minister for Textiles, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal said that India is confident of achieving a textile export target of $100 billion by 2030.
Interacting with media persons during the two-day textile conclave organised under Kashi Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi on Wednesday, Goyal said an exhibition of 75 types of handwoven sarees of India will be organised in New Delhi.
The exhibition named ‘My Saree My Pride’ will showcase handwoven Patola, Banarasi, Paithani, Kanjeevaram and other sarees. He said that weavers from all over the country will participate in this festival which will start from December 16 at Janpath Haat in New Delhi.
Goyal spoke of Kashi’s deep connection with Tamil Nadu and said that it reminded of the firecrackers bursting in Kashi on Dev Diwali which comes from Sivakasi( TN). Similarly, Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu, which is also known for its vast textile sector, also has a strong connection with Kashi.
He said that Kashi is related to Tamil Nadu and Kashi is influenced by Tamil Nadu. He said that about 2000 years ago the people of Chettinad group came to Kashi and since then they have became a part of UP state.
