India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday signed a currency swap agreement to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
The agreement was signed after the 12th India-UAE joint commission meeting co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.
The two sides held exhaustive discussions on cooperation in energy, security, trade, investment, space, defence and consular, among others. The two countries also discussed the possibility of cooperation in new areas, sources said.
India and the UAE also signed an MoU for development cooperation in Africa.
Meanwhile, India and Sudan also reviewed bilateral relations during the 8th session of foreign office consultations in New Delhi.
“During the bilateral foreign office consultations, the entire gamut of bilateral relations that include political, trade, investments, defence and security, human resource development and capacity building, agriculture, lines of credit (LoCs) and culture were reviewed,” the External Affairs Ministry said.
“The Indian side reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Sudan in these areas. The two sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual concern at regional and multilateral levels,” the ministry added.
India is a key development aid partner of Sudan with New Delhi extending LoCs worth over $631 million to the African nation.
India has also invested close to $2.3 billion in the oil sector, part of which now falls in South Sudan.
There are around 3,000 Sudanese students presently studying in India.
