When Piketty came to India
Thomas Piketty, the French economist and author of the famous book Capital in the Twenty First Century, was recently in India. He delivered a lecture on the state of inequality globally as well as in India.
In a bid to strengthen economic ties with Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the annual meeting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Gujarat and said India is proud of its education and technical ties with Africa.
"India is proud of its education and technical ties with Africa. India's partnership with Africa is based on a model of cooperation which is responsive to needs of African countries, it is demand-driven," PM modi said while inaugurating the annual meeting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Gujarat.

"After assuming office in 2014, I have made Africa a top priority for India’s foreign and economic policy," PM Modi said.

"Africa-India trade multiplied in last 15 years. It doubled in the last 5 years to reach nearly $72bn in 2014-15," he added.
The President of African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, has said that the core theme of the annual meeting is 'Transforming Agriculture for wealth creation in Africa'.
"The main focus of the meeting will be on achieving sustainable growth with High 5s- strategy- which include agriculture, energy, industrialisation, regional connectivity and improved quality of life," Adesina said.
According to reports, India is also organising an Africa India Cooperation event on the side-lines of the main event.
India joined the African Development Fund (ADF) in 1982 and the AfDB in 1983 starting a long history of cooperation spanning over 30 years.
