Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Monday said that today’s India on the energy front presents the picture of confidence of positive growth of solutions in many areas.
Speaking about the upcoming India Energy Week (IEW) to the media in New Delhi, the minister said that IEW represents a golden opportunity to showcase developments on the energy front and provide the platform for further development and growth in the energy sector.
Puri, highlighting the important aspects of the upcoming 2nd edition of the IEW being organised in Goa this time between February 6 to 9, said that 17 energy ministers from across the globe and about 35000 plus attendees with more than 900 exhibitors will be part of the event.
“I am pleased to share that this time we will have dedicated 6 country pavilions namely Canada, Germany Netherlands, Russia, UK and USA”, he added.
The Minister said that during IEW 2024, a special Make in India Pavilion is being organized with more than 300 exhibitors to showcase innovative solutions Indian MSMEs are spearheading in the energy sector.
Mr Puri said, with the number of domestic and international participants this gives them an unparalleled platform to demonstrate their abilities to both domestic and international markets.
The IEW is just one year old, and the enthusiasm that we see including from international sponsors is very encouraging, Puri pointed out.
Noting the significant rise in private sponsorship, the minister informed that there has been 81% increase in total revenue from private firms and a 44% increase in number of private sponsors (IEW’24 – 13 and IEW’23 – 9) resulting in more than 3 times private sponsorship revenue than last year.
Building on the incredible success of the first edition of IEW, the minister noted that the duration and the number of strategic sessions this time have been stepped up from 3 to 4 days with 44 per cent (forecasted) more sessions planned in IEW’24.
With regard to the technical sessions, the number of submission papers received has doubled from 1000 last year to 2000 for IEW 2024.
Speaking at the event, Puri also highlighted the importance of the bio- fuels, green Hydrogen especially in context of growth of country’s economy in coming years.
He said that at present the country’s GDP is over 4 trillion, and by end of fiscal year 2025, we should be a 5 trillion economy.
Puri stressed that a growing economy consumes more energy and pointed that there is a global shift taking place towards sustainable energy.
With climate change there is need to address the issue of global warming and also shift to green energy, which is becoming a necessity which also the big businessmen are saying these days, Mr Puri added.
He also said that there was a need to scale up the availability of the bio- fuels and added that the government is looking forward to have more 100 bio- gas plants that are to be set up in Uttar Pradesh in the near future.
