Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated and laid foundation stones of various developmental projects worth Rs 1200 crore in Lakshadweep. The prime minister said that the focus of his government is to uplift lives of people in Lakshadweep through enhanced development.

“In addition to creating futuristic infrastructure, it is also about creating opportunities for better healthcare, faster internet and drinking water, while protecting as well celebrating the vibrant local culture. The projects that were inaugurated reflect this spirit,” he added.

Modi also interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes and heard their life experiences.

“Had excellent interactions with the beneficiaries of various government schemes. It’s inspiring to see firsthand how these initiatives are fostering better health, self-reliance, women empowerment, improved agricultural practices and more. The life journeys I heard were truly moving,” he added.

PM tries his hands at snorkeling 

The prime minister also tried his hands at snorkelling during the small trip to Lakshadweep. Modi shared pictures of the visit and termed the activity “an exhilarating experience”.

“For those who wish to embrace the adventurer in them, Lakshadweep has to be on your list. During my stay, I also tried snorkelling – what an exhilarating experience it was!,” he said.

Congress reacts to PM Modi’s images in snorkeling suit

Reacting to his visit, the Congress party slammed Modi for “having fun” and clicking pictures in different dresses in Lakshadweep while the north-eastern state of Manipur is “burning for eight months”.

“Manipur has been burning for 8 months…People are still being murdered. Indian citizens are being killed, rendered homeless, and tortured. But… where is the Prime Minister of India? The Prime Minister of India is having fun. Great photography is taking place on the seashore,” Congress wrote on ‘X’ and shared pictures of PM Modi’s Lakshadweep trip.

The main Opposition party also accused the PM of running away from responsibilities.

“Photos are being taken in different dresses. A wonderful pose is being given. Sometimes relaxing on the shore, sometimes playing with the waves of the sea. Fun is fun. PM Modi is an expert in the art of running away from responsibilities,” the Congress added.
