If Veena Vijayan has nothing to hide, she should participate in investigation: Meenakshi Lekhi

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi on Saturday said that the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) probe against the firm owned by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter Veena Vijayan is not politically motivated.

Speaking to media persons in Kozhikode, Lekhi said democracy does not give immunity to anybody. There is no immunity for anyone against wrong doing, criminal acts or corruption, especially for political families.

Political families should be above board. It is almost like the saying that “Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion, she said.

“If Veena Vijayan has nothing to hide, she should participate in the investigation and follow the rule of law and law of the land.If there is something to hide, law will take its own course,“ the Minister said.

Earlier, Meenakshi Lekhi expressed displeasure at the audience at the ‘Awake Youth for Nation’ programme held in Kozhikode on Saturday for being reluctant to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ aloud along with her at the end of her speech.

Concluding her speech, Lekhi chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ aloud and she asked the audience to do so. However, there was a lukewarm response from the audience.

A visibly irked Lekhi asked them whether Bharat was not their mother and she even suggested a woman, who was reluctant to raise the slogan, to leave the venue.
