External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj slammed Rahul Gandhi after the Congress president questioned the ‘Hinduism’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Swaraj mocked the Gandhi scion saying that he was “confused about his religion and caste”.
“Rahul Gandhi said PM doesn’t know meaning of being a Hindu. He said that because he and Congress are confused about his religion and caste,” Swaraj said.

“For years, the party presented him as secular leader but near polls, when they realised that Hindus are in majority, they created this [Hindu] image,” the EAM said.
Responding to Gandhi’s ‘knowledge of Hinduism’, Swaraj sarcastically said, “Bayan aaya ki wo ‘janeudhari brahmin’ hai, par mujhe nahi maloom tha ki ‘janeudhari brahmin’ ke gyan mein itni vridhi ho gayi ki Hindu hone ka matlab ab hame unse samajhna padega. Bhagwan na kare ki wo din kabhi aaye ki Rahul Gandhi se hame Hindu hone ka matlab janna pade. (The discourse is that he is a Janeudhari Brahmin. I didn’t know that his knowledge will develop to such a level where we will have to learn the meaning of being a Hindu from him. I pray the day never comes.)”
Gandhi, who is on a temple spree for the last many months and recently revealed his gotra, had said that PM Modi has no idea of Hinduism.
At a rally in Udaipur today Gandhi said, “What is the essence of Hinduism? What does the Gita say? That knowledge is with everybody, knowledge is all around you. Every living being has knowledge. Our PM says he is a Hindu but he doesn’t understand foundation of Hinduism. What kind of a Hindu is he?”
