Casting aspersions over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aptitude, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hoped that the “56 inch strongman” has a plan to resolve the Doklam issue with China.

In a tweet, the Gandhi scion shared a news article titled — “India should have learnt lessons from Doklam” says China thus, questioning the status quo over the Doklam issue which had last year led to a 73-day face off between India and China.

“Last week thousands took my Twitter poll. 63% felt Modi Ji would use hugplomacy, blame RM (Defence Minsiter) and cry in public to deal with the Doklam issue!” said Rahul in his tweet mocking Modi.

“For India’s sake, I hope you were wrong and our 56 inch strongman has a plan,” the Congress leader said referring to Modi’s speech at election rallies ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls during which he had boasted of his 56-inch chest to battle it out with Pakistan and the terrorist outfits there.

The Congress President had on March 21 attacked Modi over reports claiming China has found an alternate route to Doklam and had held an opinion poll on his official Twitter handle.

“In Doklam, it’s China season again. How will Modi Ji react this time? tweeted Gandhi attaching a story headlined – “China quietly and cleverly finds a new route to South Doklam, 7 months after India stopped it”.

Gandhi also gave a few options: “Hugplomacy, Blame RM (Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman), Cry in public and All of the above”.

India and China were locked in a 73-day stand-off at Doklam in the eastern section of their border.

The crisis erupted after Indian troops halted road construction at Doka La in the region, citing Bhutan’s claim to the area.

Doka La is very close to India’s artery which connects its northeast with the rest of the country. The stand-off was resolved in August.
