Members of the Hindu Sena on Saturday defaced a signboard of Babar road in Bengali Market here, and demanded it to be renamed as “Ayodhya Marg”.
With two days left for the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, the Hindu Sena activists put up a poster on the Babar Road signage with the name “Ayodhya Marg.”
Reportedly there was no formal police complaint in the matter so far, and the civic agency is getting the poster removed from the sign board and are likely to register a complaint in this connection.
Reportedly, the outfit had earlier written to NDMC, asking to change the name of the road stating it should be named “Ayodhya Marg.”
The leader of the outfit alleged Babar tortured people and inflicted atrocities on them.
Incident is said to have triggered a fresh debate on the demand to change the name of the road which was after the Mughal emperor.
The Hindu Sena claims that the current name of the road glorifies a figure associated with actions against the cultural and religious sentiments of people.
“Today@HinduSenaOrg activists have changed the name of Babar Road in New Delhi to Ayodhya Marg,”
Vishnu Gupta posted on the platform “X,” and also shared visuals of the sign board with a poster of Ayodhya Marg glued to it.
