Himachal govt misleading farmers on Rs 100 per litre milk guarantee: BJP

BJP chief spokesperson Randhir Sharma

Senior leader and state BJP chief spokesperson Randhir Sharma accused the incumbent Congress government in Himachal Pradesh of repeatedly misleading the people of the state.

“In the last assembly elections, the Congress party had made many promises to the public in the name of 10 guarantees stating that these guarantees would be fulfilled as soon as it comes to power,” he claimed.

However, after coming to power, Congress has not only forgotten the promises but has also failed to fulfil the same, rued Sharma. “It has been more than a year since this government came to power but not a single guarantee has been fully implemented. The people are being misled by the government by claims of having fulfilled three guarantees,” he charged.

Taking a dig at the state government, he said the chief minister had recently campaigned to publicise the fulfilling guarantee of buying milk from farmers at Rs 100 per litre by increasing the price of milk by Rs 6.

“Currently, the price of milk per litre is around Rs 40 per liter, what is needed is an increase of Rs 60 per liter, however, the Congress government is trying to mislead the public by increasing it by Rs 6 per litre, which the BJP strongly condemns. We believe that this increase is like a straw in the camel’s mouth,” he accused.

“This promised increase should have been fully implemented to Rs 100 per litre, as after assuming power the state government had increased the liquor sold within the state by Rs 10 per bottle and said that this is milk cess. This increase was aimed at purchasing milk from farmers at Rs 100 per liter,” he said.

The government is collecting milk cess but the farmers are not getting the price of milk as promised, he maintained.

“The previous BJP government under the leadership of the then chief minister Jai Ram Thakur had increased the price of milk by Rs 9 per liter. By increasing the milk price by Rs 6 per litre, the Congress government has proved that this government is not concerned about the welfare of the farmers, but is making an effort to garner votes for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections by misleading them,” he alleged.

“The farmers and the cattle rearers of the state are fully aware and cannot be fooled. They will not fall for this tempting propaganda of Congress until their demand for Rs 100 per litre of milk is not met,” said Sharma.
