In a scathing attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday likened the party to termites and asked the voters in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh to “uproot” the party.
Addressing a public rally in Kangra, Modi said everyone was deserting the Congress party and it was suffering due to its “sins”.
“To treat ailing Himachal, termites in the form Congress will have to be uprooted and thrown out,” Modi said as he called upon the people to ensure that the BJP gets three-fourths majority in the hill state.
“On one hand we are fighting corruption whereas Congress is preparing to mark 8th November as black money day. Congress is getting the fruits of its sins. If people are angry today, it is due to its own deeds,” he said.
The hill state will go to polls for 68 assembly seats on November 9 and with just a few days left, both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have upped the ante against each other, desperate to woo the voters.
The results will be declared on December 18, the day the votes cast will be counted along with those in Gujarat.
In Himachal Pradesh, Congress won 36 of the 68 seats in 2012 with a vote share of 42.81 per cent, while the BJP bagged 26 seats with a 38.47 per cent vote share.
