Heavy snowfall on Wednesday cut off the Kashmir valley from the rest of the country as all flights to the Valley were cancelled and the highways were also shut.

The Srinagar Airport authorities announced that all flights have been cancelled due to bad weather and heavy snowfall.

The temperature in the entire Jammu and Kashmir dipped due to the cold wave conditions.

The Jammu-Srinagar highway and the Mughal Road linking Jammu and the Kashmir valley have been closed for vehicular traffic.

An intense western disturbance is becoming active over the J&K from January 19 and will remain till January 23, peaking on January 22.

Drass in Ladakh was the coldest with minus 16.2 degree Celsius. Srinagar recorded minus 2.1 degrees Celsius, while the tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Pahalgam were reeling under minus 6 and minus 4.2 degree Celsius respectively.

Roads in Kashmir have become slippery due to the snow and the traffic police have advised motorists to drive cautiously to avoid skidding of vehicles.

Former chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah was caught in the snow while driving to his constituency in the Valley. He had to walk in the snow to reach the venue of his public meeting.
