Army soldier killed in gunfight with terrorists in Sopore
A soldier was killed on Monday during an overnight encounter with terrorists in North Kashmir’s Sopore area, according to the Srinagar based Chinar Corps of the Indian Army.
Security forces received information of the presence of terrorists in the forest in Branpathry Kahlil of Tral following which they launched a search operation.

The gunfight was triggered after the terrorists, who were in hiding, opened fire at the personnel.

“As the security forces tightened the cordon, the militants started firing which triggered the ongoing gunfight,” the police added.
The security forces comprise personnel from Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police and 180 BN Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Reports say that the exchange of gunfire was not on but the forces have tightened the cordon around the forest.
The gunfight comes a day after an Indian Army soldier, who was on leave, was killed by terrorists at his home in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore town.
Muhammad Rafiq Yatoo of the Territorial Army was shot and critically injured at his home in Warpora locality of Sopore and taken to hospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
On the same day, security forces killed two terrorists after they ambushed an Army patrol at Pinjora in Shopian. The terrorists were identified as Rahil Rashid Sheikh from Ganderbal and Bilal Ahmad of Keegam.
