At a time when Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has been consistent with his controversial statements, Gujarat assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi seems to have taken a cue from the former.
According to media reports, Rajendra Trivedi on Sunday asserted that Dalit icon BR Ambedkar was a Brahmin.

Speaking at the ‘Mega Brahmin Business Summit’ in Gandhinagar, Trivedi said, “I have no hesitation in saying that BR Ambedkar was a Brahmin. There is nothing wrong with calling a learned person a Brahmin. In that context, I will say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also a Brahmin.”
In addition, Trivedi termed Lord Ram as a Kshtriya and Lord Krishna as an OBC (Other Backward Caste).
“Brahmins made the gods, and I have always said that Lord Ram was a Kshatriya, but it was the rishi-munis (sages) who made him a god. The shepherd of Gokul… who made this OBC a god? It was Sandipani Rishi, a Brahmin,” Rajendra Trivedi was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel were reportedly also present at the event.
Criticising Trivedi’s remarks, BJP MP Udit Raj questioned if he was aware of the Indian history. He added that the comment is unfounded, objectionable and undesirable.
