Shifting focus to the second phase of Assembly polls in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday address four rallies in north and central regions of the state that will vote on December 14.

Modi will be addressing the rallies in Bhabar, Kalol, Vatva and Himatnagar for the remaining 93 seats, officials said.

Campaigning for the first phase of the Gujarat elections came to an end on Thursday with PM Modi and soon-to-be Congress chief Rahul Gandhi holding a host of rallies.

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar triggered a major storm by calling Modi a “neech aadmi” (base), which the Prime Minister gave a caste angle.

The prime minister told an election rally in Gujarat that describing him as “neech jaati” (low born) was an insult to Gujaratis who will vote out the Congress in the assembly elections.

In a damage-control move, the Congress suspended Aiyar from its primary membership and slapped a show cause notice on him for the remark that mushroomed into a massive controversy – two days ahead of the Gujarat first-phase polls.

The two-phase Gujarat assembly elections will take place on December 9 and 14, while the results will be out on December 18.
