Speaking at the GST launch event in the Central Hall of the Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the GST launch has set the path for India's future journey.
"GST is not achievement of any single government but a result of collective efforts. Some of the 'best brains' of the country have worked hard behind this. It is because of them that we are here to witness its implementation," PM Modi said.

Saying that GST has united country the way Sardar Patel had done post-Independence, PM Modi said from Ganganagar to Itanagar and from Leh to Lakshadweep, there will be ‘One Nation, One Tax’.
"This place (Central Hall) is a place graced by some of the greatest leaders we have had. This is an auspicious place," he said, adding, "This place is witness to the midnight of August 14. And today, after so many years, we assemble here for economic reform. There couldn't have been a better place for this occasion."
Highlighting the effect of the GST rollout, PM Modi said that the mechanism will help the government reach out to the poor.
"This mechanism will help us reach out to the poor. There will be no 'kacha bill' and 'pakka bill' from tomorrow," he said, adding, "After 70 years of Independence, there is still a lot that is yet to reach the poor of the country. GST will help us in that direction."
Saying that GST would check the corrupt and give opportunities to the honest, PM Modi said it will help get rid of a plethora of economic hurdles.
"GST will be a mechanism that would check the corrupt and give opportunities to the honest. It will also give us an opportunity to us for better governance," he said, adding, "We are getting rid of a plethora of economic hurdles and hindrances with GST."
