The CPI-M Central leadership may look into the serious allegations levelled against party Central committee member and Kerala ruling front convener EP Jayarajan by P Jayarajan.

It has been reported that the allegations levelled against senior party leader EP Jayarajan may come up for discussion in the Polit Bureau (PB) meeting to be held on Monday and Tuesday.

Though the Jayarajan issue is not in the agenda of the PB meeting, P Jayarajan’s allegations  that  EP Jayarajan has illegally acquired property worth  crores of rupees may come up for discussin in the meeting.

CPI-M state committee member P Jayarajan has accused that party’s central committee member and Kerala LDF convener EP Jayarajan illegally acquired property in the name of Kannur Ayurveda Medical Care Limited. P Jayarajan  has reportedly made the allegation at the CPI-M  state committee meeting held on Wednesday and Thursday.

He alleged that there has been massive financial irregularities involving the resort and Ayurvedic village which was built by illegally acquiring property worth Rs 30 crore.

P Jayarajan on Sunday indirectly indicated that he would not back off from the allegations leveled against EP Jayarajan . Speaking at a party function in Kanhangad in the Kasargodd district, Jayarajan said that  party leaders should follow the party norms . “If the members are not ready to rectify their mistakes, they will not have a place in the party, “he warned

He said if such discussions take place, the party will not collapse. Instead such rectification discussions within CPI-M will only strengthen the party. “Such discussions will make the party a pure movement like ‘oothikachiya ponnupole (blown seethed gold).”

Criticising the media, he said that the media are trying to create issues within the CPI-M.

“If you check the media reports in the last two days, you will think that CPI-M is going to face a big problem. CPM is a special one. It is not like Congress or BJP,” he said.

P Jayarajan, a popular leader among the party workers in Knannu, has not been in the good books of CM Pinarayi Vijayan. Though he is senior leader, P Jayarajan was not elevated to the party secretariat, in the last party state conference held in Kochi. He is known among party cadres and workers for his anti-corruption stance.

Ever since MV Govindan was appointed the state secretary of the party, EP Jayarajan began maintaining a low-profile, and took leave from  party  on health grounds. After the incumbent secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had passed away, EP Jayarajan expected that he would either be made a politburo member of the party or be made as the CPI-M state secretary, as he was senior in the party . But he was not considered for both the post

In this connection, Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) Bakkalam unit secretary Sajin accused EP Jayarajan of starting the construction of the resort without obtaining sanction from the authorities. Many of the documents were secured only after finishing the building works, he said. It is learnt that CPI-M allegedly dismissed Sajin from the branch committee for proceeding with the complaint against the resort.

From the very beginning, the resort’s construction was entangled in controversies as the Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) and environmentalists had protested against the demolition of the hill

EP Jayarajan’s son P K Jaison is the chairman of the resort. Ramesh Kumar, a close associate of CPI-M leaders, is its managing director. EP Jayarajan’s wife P K Indira is also a director board member of the resort.

When the hill was demolished, the KSSP lodged a complaint with the district collector demanding an environmental impact study. Although the Kannur collector directed the geology department to conduct an environmental impact study, nothing happened thereafter.

At the time of construction, the mining and geology department — which is responsible to take action on illegal hill destruction — was under then minister E P Jayarajan.

Meanwhile, gold smuggling accused Swapna Suresh has alleged that E P Jayarajan’s son Jaison is having a benami business dealing based in UAE. Jaison has an oil refinery at Ras Al Khaimah, she said.

Swapna alleged that Jaison had met her in Dubai seeking her help with the import through a UAE-based benami company. The pictures of the meeting she had with Jaison in Dubai had already surfaced.
