CPI-M leader Mohd Salim on Tuesday said the government was targeting the Opposition for non-functioning of Lok Sabha, in spite of the fact that its members obeyed the Speaker in resuming their seats, while the AIADMK members kept shouting in the Well of the House.
Salim said when Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said that members should resume their seats so that she could count the members, the Opposition members sat down.
However, the AIADMK members who were in the Well, shouting slogans for the constitution of the Cauvery Board, did not move and stayed there. This did not allow the House to get back in order and the Speaker adjourned the House for the day, Salim said.
Even while this was going on, Parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar blamed the Congress Party for stalling the House functioning. Salim said the AIADMK was holding up the business although they are “in alliance” with the government.
The CPI-M leader said home minister Rajnath Singh’s statement was allowed while the AIADMK members were shouting. The government was not allowing the no-confidence motion as it had lost credibility, he charged.
Salim said the NDA government accused the earlier UPA Government of policy paralysis but was itself not able to take a decision on Cauvery.
