The Congress leader linked the audacity of criminals to “total failure of the administration”, resulting in the unsafe environment for daughters of the country.

“This audacity of the criminals is a result of the total failure of the administration and the unsafe environment prevailing in the country — due to this is a restriction on the freedom and aspirations of the daughters of India,” he remarked.

The Gandhi scion further said that both the society and the government should be ashamed and think seriously.

“How long will they turn a blind eye to the responsibility of protecting half the population of the country!” he added.

His remarks came in response to the brutal attack on two Army officers and the alleged rape of their female friend in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.

According to reports, the Army officers and two of their female friends were out for a picnic near the Chhoti Jam firing range when the alleged incident took place.

As they were enjoying the outing, a group of men, armed with pistols and sticks surrounded them and thrashed the young officers. The criminals allegedly gang-raped one of the female companion at gun-point.

A case has been registered in this regard and the police are hunting for the third accused while two suspects have reportedly been arrested.
