“The last year has been truly successful in terms of financial transactions between the two countries following the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s visit to India. I thank the Chamber for making it a tremendous success,” said High Commissioner Nadir Patel.
He added, “It’s a gala to celebrate the momentous year but we are just getting started. Building on the momentum of PM Trudeau’s visit, ICBC will continue to play major role in strengthening the strong Canada-India bilateral trade and economic relationship.”
In 2017, two-way merchandise trade between Canada and India amounted to 8.4 billion Dollars, split equally between exports to and imports from India (4 billion Dollars each). Also, that same year India was Canada’s eighth largest destination for merchandise exports, informed the High Commissioner.
Margaret Skinner, Director Sales EMEAI, Air Canada, and MaireadLavery, Senior Vice President, Export Development Canada (EDC) were also present during the event and shared their valuable insights on the Canada-India business relationship.
Speaking on the occasion, Mairead Lavery said, “Thank you His Excellency for hosting us. It is a pleasure to be back in India and reconnect with the community. The last year has been truly successful for us as in only two years we doubled our business. EDC’s business model is actually connecting business to business and people to people.”
