Burdwan Zoo to get Royal Bengal tiger, hippopotamus
Beyond the Alipore Zoo in Kolkata, another Bengal zoo, the one located in Burdwan town, is set to house a Royal Bengal tiger and a hippopotamus, senior forest officials have stated.
On the basis of intelligence input, a team of STF, Odisha Police and Forest Officials arrested the wildlife criminal Purna Chandra Majhi of Sasangabeda village under Udala police station jurisdiction of Mayurbhanj district.

A fortnight after the capture of a Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT) hide from the fringes of Simlipal National Park, a joint team of the Crime Branch Special Task Force (STF) and Baripada forest division arrested another accused for his alleged involvement in the case.
On the basis of intelligence input, a team of STF, Odisha Police and Forest Officials arrested the wildlife criminal Purna Chandra Majhi of Sasangabeda village under Udala police station jurisdiction of Mayurbhanj district.

On 14 December, the tiger skin and other incriminating materials were recovered from the possession of the principal accused Dev Kumar Patra, who had procured the tiger hide. With the latest interception, four persons have so far been arrested in the tiger skin seizure case.

On the allegation of covering-up the royal Bengal tiger poaching case, three forest personnel have also been arrested, said officials.

The Minister replying to a query by Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy told the House that 48 leopards and 7 royal Bengal tigers have died in different forest divisions in Odisha from 2014-15 to 2023-24.
