Five killed in Meerut cold storage explosion

At least five labourers were killed and several others were critically injured as the roof of a cold storage collapsed due to an explosion in the Daurala area of the district on Friday.

Former BSP MLA Chandraveer Singh, who is the owner of the Shiv Shakti cold storage, fell ill after the incident.

The police said that the boiler in the cold storage exploded, due to which gas leaked and the entire roof was blown away. The incident occurred at around 3.30 pm.

Selva Kumari, Divisional Commissioner has confirmed that three people died and several others injured in the incident.

Deepak Meena, district magistrate of Meerut confirmed that the roof collapsed after an explosion in the cold storage. He said 12 labourers rescued. Six injured were admitted to hospital.

As per locals, 25 labourers were inside when the explosion took place. Rescue operation is still underway, he added.

According to sources, five laborers died, while 15 were injured.  Five of the injured were in critical condition.

Some laborers got buried under the debris and some fainted due to leakage, who are being admitted to Meerut hospital.

On getting information about the incident DM, SSP, ADM City Magistrate, SDM, CMO and SP City reached the spot. The commissioner also reached the spot along with, Union Minister of State Sanjeev Balyan and former BJP  MLA Sangeet Som.
