In a crackdown on drug peddlers, the Shamli police got a major success on Wednesday night in the form of recovery of ‘Doda-post’ drugs estimated to be worth around Rs 1 crore.

Five drug peddlers transporting the contraband were arrested from the Meerut-Karnal highway.

Calling it a big success by Jhinjhana police of the district , Shamli Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar appreciated the work.

The arrested men, Kunwar Singh, Kala alias Mehboob, Tansir , Irfan and Omprakash, were produced before the media at a press conference in Shamli on Thursday.

More than 2000 kilograms of ‘Doda post’ drug were recovered, said the police, adding that a Maruti Alto car and a truck were used for its transportation. The police said the arrested men could be members of a well organised gang.

Working on a tip-off from an informer, the Jhinjhana police caught hold of a truck on Wednesday which was laden with bags of Doda post drug. The truck was caught from a dhaba near Kerata village on the Meerut-Karnal highway.

Five men who were travelling with the drugs were also arrested by the police. The drugs were being smuggled from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh and was believed to have been loaded in the truck from Udaipur in Rajasthan, said the police.
