An FIR was registered against six persons on Wednesday in Azad Maidan police station, Mumbai for allegedly stealing groundwater amounting to more than Rs 70 crore over past several years.

As per the complainant, Suresh Kumar Dhokha, a tenant in Pandya mansion, the owners of the building have dug two illegal wells and sold water amounting to Rs 73.18 crores for the past 11 years. He also alleged negligence by the municipal administration.

“Accused did not have permission for either digging up the well, extracting water or installation of water pipeline,” Suresh told ANI.

He further added that the property is on lease from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and even moving a brick from there is an offence.

The six accused namely Tripura Prasad Pandya, Prakash Pandya, Manoj Kumar Pandya, Shrawan Mishra and Dhiraj Mishra are booked under sections 379 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
