A 45-year-old man suffering from a prolonged illness reportedly set himself ablaze by pouring an inflammable material in the National Capital. The incident is said to have occurred in a park located in the area of Dwarka Sector-11. Some passersby tried to save the man without success.

The deceased has been identified as Lalji (45), a resident of Bindapur area, Delhi.

On information, a police team reached the spot and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.

A police source said after preliminary investigation, the police team discovered that Lalji had consumed some pesticides before setting himself on fire. The police are awaiting a post-mortem report.

A senior police officer said that the information about the incident was received at around 7.30 am on Monday through a caller. After reaching the spot, the police team found Lalji lying in the park with 100 per cent burns.

Lalji was a contract worker. His family consists of his wife and a son along with other family members.

Further, the police are probing the matter.
