The Downdetector said that there were more than 300,000 reports of outages on Facebook, and as many 20,000 reports on Instagram.
Following the reports, Meta issued a statement acknowledging the outage and said it was working to resolve the issue.
“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” said Meta spokesperson Andy Stone.
As Meta platforms were down and people moved to ‘X’ to post about the outage, the Elon Musk-owned social media giant made a tongue-in-cheek post: “we know why you’re all here rn.”
Musk also took a dig and said, “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working.”
